Traditional black soap starts by sun-drying and roasting plantain skins, cocoa pods, and palm leaves until they turn to ash. That ash is mixed with water to draw out alkaline salts, forming the soap base, similar to how lye is made for Western soaps. The base is then combined with oils like palm kernel or coconut oil to bind it into something usable on skin.

The reason black soap is so effective is because the ash contains natural potassium salts that clean without harsh synthetic surfactants (like sodium lauryl sulfate) that strip your skin's natural oil barrier. That's the actual mechanism behind why traditional black soap users report less irritation than with regular bar soap.

We kept that ash-based formula but reworked it into a liquid, since a bar sitting in a wet shower dish breaks down fast and picks up bacteria. Liquid form holds its integrity longer and dispenses cleaner.

Our liquid black soap comes in two formulations. Unscented is meant for face use and sensitive skin, so you can use it as a daily face wash or a full body cleanser without irritation. EMBER is our oud-scented formula, designed for cleansing and nourishing the body while also clarifying skin (fragrance oils in oud-based scents aren't suited for facial use, so this one is for body use only).

One 250 ml bottle is built to last through daily washing for roughly 6 weeks. You won't need much per use.
